Yom Kippur - Day of Atonement
Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year. It occurs on 10 Tishrei, ten days after the new year begins. For 2026, Yom Kippur begins at sundown, 2026sep20, and continues through 2026sep21.
Christian symbolism
Yom Kippur is especially important for understanding Hebrews 9-10. The New Testament presents Jesus as the great High Priest whose sacrifice accomplishes what the annually repeated Day of Atonement sacrifices anticipated.
Sukkot - Feast of Tabernacles
Sukkot is a seven day Biblical Jewish festival that begins on 15 Tishrei. It is also called the Feast of Booths. For 2026, Sukkot begins at sundown 2026sep25, with the first full day on 2026sep26.
God instructed Israel to live in temporary shelters called sukkot to remember how He cared for the Israelites after bringing them out of Egypt.
